In a few hours, Manchester United will confirm the appointment of Jose Mourinho as United’s new manager.
The announcement will be made on Thursday after two days of negotiations between United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Mourinho’s advisor, Jorge Mendes.
The contract will see the former Chelsea coach sign a £10m-a-year, three-year contract with Manchester United.
Although United is yet to officially announced the contract, UK media reports say that Jose Mourinho has signed his contract with Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho will be officially announced as Old Trafford’s third manager in three years on Thursday following the dismissal of outsted Dutch coach Louis van Gaal even after winning the FA Cup for the club last weekend.
Mourinho will be earning double the £5m-a-year salary paid to Van Gaal, with the daunting task of restoring United to the zenith of English and European football, with titles to show for it.
According to the reports, details of the new deal include bonuses that will pay Mourinho an additional £5 million and £2.5 million respectively if he successfully leads Man United to the Champions League or Premier League title each season.
Potential conflicts over ownership rights as well as sponsorship deals between Mourinho’s personal sponsors and those of United were resolved at the negotiating table.
Jose Mourinho Congratulated By Former Captain Ferdinand
Earlier today, former Manchester United Captain, Rio Ferdinand took to his Facebook page to congratulate Mourinho as well as give him some advice on how best to lead the club to glory.
In his post, Ferdinand offered the following advice to incoming coach Mourinho:
“The first thing he needs to do is install ‘winning mentality’ back into the club.
“Get this ingredient back into the players but also the people that work inside the club day to day.
“Give them back that belief so it is breathing throughout the club again, which is so important.
“But doing the above in the Manchester United way is equally as important.”
