BREAKING NEWS: PDP BRINGS OUT SURPRISE CANDIDATE AS THEIR FLAG BEARER FOR EDO STATE GUBER POLLS

Channels TV has reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the winner of its just concluded Edo State governorship primary election.

Osagie Ize-Iyamu won the election by a total of 584 votes, beating his closest rival, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen,
who had only 91 votes, closing in at a distant second, while Mr Solomon Edebiri polled 38 votes to come third.

On Monday, the primary election to determine the PDP’s contender in
September 10 poll took place at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Governor of Ebonyi  State, Dave Umahi chaired the committee for the primary elections.

Umahi had earlier urged all the delegates to be cordinated, emphasising the need to hasten the processs.

About 740 delegates were accredited under the platform
of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  in Benin in order to elect the sole candidate of the party for the Edo state governorship poll. Statutory delegates kicked off the exercise while others waited their turn. The exercise is in preparation for the Saturday, September
10 governorship election.

The exercise commenced at about 9:30am and was being conducted simultaneously at three different locations with Okada House on Urubi Street hosting delegates from Edo South. While, delegates from Edo
North were being accredited at JBS Estate and the accreditation for those from Edo Central is taking place at
the party’s secretariat at First East Circular Road.

Chief Solomon Edebiri, Mr Osagie
Ize-Iyamu and Mr Mathew Uduoeyekemwen, all from Edo
South purchased the form at the PDP headquarters in the State and also contested against each other in the elections.

Ize-Iyamu, who won the primaries, was the secretary to the state government under the administration of one time governor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion. While Uduoeyekemwen was the majority
leader in the House of Assembly at that same time.

The publicity secretary of the PDP in Edo state, Mr Chris Enehikhare, said the primary election was being conducted on the directive of the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the party.

Meanwhile, Godwin Obaseki, who serves in the government of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, won the
APC primary election of Saturday, June 18, to become the party’s flagbearer at the forthcoming governorship election
proper.
