Whitney Houston’s collection of awards and personal items will be put up for auction, by June 24 and 25.
At the auction organised by Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills, her possessions which include her wedding dress, reportedly worth $40,000 (£28,000) when she married Bobby Brown in it in 1992, will be sold.
It is believed that bids for the dress will start at $3,500 (£2,400) while the full outfit could reach $7,000 (£4,800).
Whitney wowed in her fitted ivory wedding dress at her wedding, designed by Marc Bouwer, which features a sequinned bodice and sheer sleeves. The singer also wore a matching beaded hat, which was covered in delicate pearls, for her wedding to Bobby Brown.
More than a 100 items are included in the singer’s extensive collections such as the star’s awards, gold and platinum records and extravagant stage costumes.
Also up for sale are a pair of size 13 trainers worn by Michael Jordan during game three of the 1990 Pistons-Bulls Eastern Conference Finals. They’re expected to sell for more than $20,000 (£13,900) during the auction.
Whitney’s first and last passports which has stamps and special visas to countries including France, Japan, Brazil, Holland, Great Britain, and several others, and traces the history of the singer’s first international tours will also be auctioned.
It’s been four years since the superstar was found dead in her Los Angeles hotel room. Whitney tragically died from a drug overdose in February 2012 aged 48.
The star’s estate has now decided to “give something of Whitney to the people who loved her and her music”.
The organizers of the auction say it’s a unique opportunity for her fans to actually get personal things that were very close to her coming directly from the estate.
A portion of the proceeds will go to a charity of the family’s choosing. Beyond her glamorous wardrobe and treasure trove of awards, Whitney Houston left behind an even greater legacy- her music which is going to last more than a lifetime.
